New Blog Series: What’s Working Right Now

I have been an educator in some form or another for about 15 years now. Whether it’s been doing one-on-one tutoring sessions in Writing Centers, completely designing my own college classes from scratch, working with colleagues to design curricula for an entire college district, or creating activities for my own elementary-aged homeschooling daughter, there are two principles of teaching that have remained constant.

  1. As soon as you get everything figured out, something will change.
  2. Don’t recreate the wheel; borrow and adapt.

Together, those two principles have sparked the inspiration for this new series: “What’s Working Right Now.” This series will offer quick tips, tricks, and ideas for homeschooling more effectively with the very big understanding that what works today may change tomorrow and that all of these tips could be (and probably should be) adapted to fit into the rhythm and style of a different household.

What will this series be about? Anything that makes the lives of homeschooling families run a little smoother, work a little better, and feel a little easier.

These could be tips specific to a particular subject or just tips about the process of homeschooling as a whole. They’re quick snapshots into our lives that let us take a tangible problem or sticking point and turn it into a workable solution that could help someone else.

Let’s share what we’ve learned and help make each other’s lives a little easier.
